OSZ IMT - Version English

Vocational Schools at OSZ IMT

Specialised Grammar School - upper level at grades 11 to 13 at a College of Further Education

The specialised grammar school at colleges of further education in Berlin are oriented towards occupations. The final school-leaving certificate awarded after three years (grades 11 to 13) qualifies its holder for studies at all institutions of higher education, mostly natural science and engineering. This type of school at upper secondary level provides both the general education subjects taught at normal grammar schools and career-oriented subjects, e.g. information technology. At this college students have to attend advanced courses in IT and intermediate courses in business studies, especially enabling students for a professional career directly after school or for admission to all subjects at all institutions of higher education.

Berufliches Gymnasium - Gymnasiale Oberstufe an Oberstufenzentren
In-Company-Training (Dual System) alongside attendance of the Specialised Grammar School

This type of training is only offered at this college of further education. During a 4-year-course the student is a trainee under articles of apprenticeship (dual system) with German Telecom (Deutsche Telekom AG), who-in addition-attends the specialised grammar school, providing instruction in both general and vocational subjects, particularly in IT, electronics and business studies. After completion of a three-year traineeship the student obtains an NVQ as an IT-specialist and then continues attending full-time classes at the specialised grammar school concluded by the German Abitur examination.

Berufsausbildung mit Abitur
College of Further Education (upper level)

This type of school offers a full-time 2-year-course in general and vocational education subjects at grades 12 and 13 with special emphasis lying on IT technology. The final examination either leads to the specialised higher education entrance qualification (equivalent to BTEC national) (Fachgebundene Hochschulreife) or to the German Abitur. But the general higher education entrance qualification can only be obtained if proficiency in a second foreign language is provided. The school admits students with a general school-leaving certificate at lower secondary level (GCSE B-levels) (Mittlerer Schulabschluss) who have either completed a basic vocational training with an NVQ or five years' working experience. Direct admittance to grade 13 is also possible for students with a specialised higher education entrance qualification obtained at a college of further education (1-year-course). Age limits for applicants do not exist.

Berufsoberschule
College of Further Education (one-year-course)

After a 1-year-course in general and vocational education subjects at grade 12 with special emphasis lying on electrical engineering and IT technology students are awarded the specialised higher education entrance qualification (equivalent to BTEC national) entitling holders to study all subjects at all universities of applied sciences. The holders are also entitled to continue their education at grade 13 at the college of further education (upper levels) (Berufsoberschule). The school admits students with a general school-leaving certificate at lower secondary level (GCSE B-levels) (Mittlerer Schulabschluss) who have either completed a basic vocational training with an NVQ or five years' working experience. Age limits for applicants do not exist.

Einjährige Fachoberschule
Full-time Vocational School (two-year-course)

This full-time school offers basic vocational training in engineering drawing with special emphasis lying on CAD, office communication as well as mechanical and construction engineering. Students who have passed their final examination are awarded a certificate (NVQ) qualifying them as draughtspersons. This NVQ also includes an intermediate school-leaving certificate and students may go on to the college of further education.

Zweijährige Berufsfachschule
Full-time Vocational School (three-year-course)

This full-time basic vocational training in both general and vocational education subjects with special emphasis on practice-related learning leads to a double qualification. In their final examinations students obtain an NVQ in medical equipment technology or technical communication and documentation or for various IT occupations. Additionally, they are awarded the specialised higher education entrance qualification (equivalent to BTEC national) entitling holders to study all subjects at all universities of applied sciences.

Dreijährige Berufsfachschule
Part-time Vocational School alongside In-Company-Training (dual system)

At this type of compulsory school for in-company trainees, theoretical education and vocational training is provided at two places of learning. Vocational students under articles of apprenticeship acquire their practical professional qualifications in companies or equivalent institutions, while being taught work-related and general subjects in part-time lessons at school for one or two days per week. Training for IT occupations alternates between periods of in-company training for two weeks and school lessons for one week. The final examination is supervised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry or the Chamber of Trade or Crafts. All CCI and CTC examination boards awarding NVQs are tripartite boards consisting of representatives of employers, employees and vocational school teachers. Training usually lasts three years, but may be shorter or longer depending on the occupation.

This school offers courses within the dual system for the following occupations:
