At this type of compulsory school for in-company trainees, theoretical education and vocational training is provided at two places of learning. Vocational students under articles of apprenticeship acquire their practical professional qualifications in companies or equivalent institutions, while being taught work-related and general subjects in part-time lessons at school for one or two days per week. Training for IT occupations alternates between periods of in-company training for two weeks and school lessons for one week. The final examination is supervised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry or the Chamber of Trade or Crafts. All CCI and CTC examination boards awarding NVQs are tripartite boards consisting of representatives of employers, employees and vocational school teachers. Training usually lasts three years, but may be shorter or longer depending on the occupation.
